About the role
Maintains, repairs, inspects, installs and replaces plumbing systems, pipes, fittings and fixtures to maintain the heating, water, gas and drainage systems.
Cuts, bends, threads and fits pipes with adjoining pipe assemblies. Repairs leaks and clears clogged drains. Installs sinks, showers, toilets, water heaters and related plumbing fixtures.
May replace tile, replaster or paint walls through which holes have been made to gain access to plumbing. Interprets blueprints and works from sketches or verbal instructions. Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
Major Job Responsibilities
Inspects, tests, repairs, installs and maintains mechanical equipment and systems, including but not limited to fire protection systems, domestic and sewer lines and systems, eye wash stations, back flow devices, flushometers, service kitchens equipment, and grease interceptors
Estimates time and material costs on plumbing projects
Inspects completed work to ensure compliance and engineering specifications and Los Angeles city codes
May requisition new plumbing supplies and equipment
Qualifications
High School/GED
4 to 5 years of maintenance plumbing experience
Valid California driver's license with less than three DMVV points
Holds a Los Angeles County back flow tester license or able to obtain one within 12 months of employment
Holds a C 36 contractor's license or Journeyman's card
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability operate plumbing tools and equipment such as cable snake machines, jetting machines, electric pipe thread machines, fiber optic cameras for inspection of drains, sonic leak detection equipment
Ability to solder and braze copper pipe, cut and thread all sizes and types of plumbing pipe,
Ability to repair and install plumbing fixtures (urinals, toilets, sinks)
Ability to troubleshoot domestic and industrial plumbing systems
Experience with sewer ejector pumps
Familiar with the City of Los Angeles plumbing codes and regulations
Familiar with clay valves and fire life safety systems (including fire pumps, wet and dry sprinkler systems, and flow testing)</li
Familiar with pneumatic systems and grease interceptors
Ability to read and interpret blue print drawings
Ability to use a computerized work order tracking system
Ability to climb laders, stoop, crouch, kneel, lift, reach overhead, and walk
